Code of Conduct

The Code of Conduct is including everyone at the event. Teachers, musicians and participants.

THERE IS ROOM FOR EVERYONE ON THE DANCE FLOOR

Minor Swing is a non-partisan and religious association that welcomes all dancers and music lovers regardless of gender, gender identity or gender expression, ethnic affiliation, religion or other belief, functional variation, sexual orientation and age.

WE TAKE CARE OF EACH OTHER

We want all participants to feel safe, therefore we do not accept harassment among participants. If you harass someone, you will have to leave the premises. Further measures can be exclusion without funding back and/or a police report. We have an action plan against sexual harassment for more information contact minorswing@wcj.se

PERSONAL BOUNDARIES ARE IMPORTANT

Respect others’ boundaries both socially and in dance. Sometimes it’s hard to tell if someone doesn’t want to dance and sometimes it’s hard to say no to a dance. Be responsive, and if you sense hesitation and are not hearing from the person in question, it is better to take a step back.

At the beginning of the dance, it can in some cases be good to agree on how you want to dance so as not to accidentally cross someone’s boundaries. For example, you can ask “do you want to lead or follow?” or “Are you okay with a dip?”.

ASK FOR A SECOND DANCE

If you want to do one more dance, say “Shall we have another?” There are old traditions in Sweden around two dances, but there is nothing that says you have to dance two songs with the same person.

YOU CAN REFUSE

If someone asks you for a dance or a second dance and you don’t want to dance, say “No thanks”.

BE OKAY WITH SOMEONE SAYING NO

If you ask for a dance or a second dance and the person says “No thanks”, be okay with that. No one is forced to dance with anyone else.

DANCE SAFELY

Don’t do acros, lifts or bigger jumps on the social dance floor – save these for the jam circle or competition where you know you have plenty of room. Always check with each other before doing any of this so that you agree on what to do.

Action plan against sexual harassment

Sexual harassment is not tolerated on any events of West Coast Jitterbugs. If it comes to our knowledge that any participant has subjected others to harassment, it will be investigated and punished. The person who has harassed can, for example, be excluded from the event or reported to the police.
